Looks sort like what I did for an assignment in an art class. We had to use the grid thing.... but mess up the grid so the lines are at different lengths from one another.... we had to do a portrait of ourselves like that. *Laughs* Mine was pretty funny looking.

Nice work on this though. I have no clue if that is what you did (as I explained in my case) but it looks good none-the-less!
